Who Do YOU Say That I Am? Part 3

Pastor Pastor's Thought

In our final trilogy, we recount that Jesus asked for the public opinion of Himself, which was then followed by the personal and finally, the answer.
Peter hit the nail on the head and saw in Jesus what the wider public failed to see or perceive. When the public saw a Prophet or a Good man Peter saw beyond the man and instead saw what all of Israel had been looking forward to; The Messiah aka (the Christ).
The Messiah, which is translated in the Greek, translated the Christ, was the long awaited Redeemer of mankind, sent by God, to save the world from its sin. As a result, Jesus being the Messiah meant that God’s final act of redemption was finally unfolding.
In Matthew 16:16, Simon Peter said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. The answer to mankind’s failings and sinful nature; the solution is Jesus Christ who embodied the position and role of Prophet, Priest and King.
Interestingly, although the public saw Jesus, they never had a true revelation of Him or His purpose; they saw an element of who He was. Although His disciples had been close to Him, spent quality time with Him, listened to Him and watched Him closely, their perception of Him was still based on what they had seen in the natural.
The Holy Spirit is the One who gave Simon Peter the revelation and He is the One who we need to rely on for guidance, instruction and revelation. John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
1. God does not guide those who want to run their own life. He only guides those who admit their need of His direction and rely on His wisdom. – Winkie Pratney
This week, in preparation for our District Annual Convention, let us seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance, instruction and revelation. And as He orders our steps, may our Heavenly Father be glorified.
