What Will You Do?

Pastor Pastor's Thought

Today is Homeless Sunday and an opportunity for Churches and Christian groups to join together in prayer and reflection, in order to plan practical action on homelessness. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for a united Christian voice to be empathetic, stand in solidarity and be a prophetic voice for change.

People are homeless for a variety of reasons, including mental ill health, financial problems, family breakdown or job loss.  Most do not want to be homeless.  Many are hidden homeless, sleeping on family or friends sofa or floors.

In response to this, there are some ways we may get involved to help the homeless;

• Volunteer – for a homeless charity or food bank or soup kitchen
• Give – to charity food/clothing/
You may help by donating food from your weekly shopping, donating unwanted clothes you may have or giving some money – making regular or one-off monetary donations to a charity
• An act of kindness to a homeless person
• Pray

Jesus himself made reference to homelessness (as could be interpreted) concerning himself.

Matthew 8:20 ~ And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

As Nelson Mandela stated,
‘Poverty is not an accident.  Like slavery and apartheid, it is man-made and can be removed by the actions of human beings’.

Today, think about ways as to how you/we may assist in alleviating poverty and put it into action.  Remember, had it not been for the grace of God, there I would be also.
