Trust God and be Safe

Pastor Pastor's Thought

Over the past fortnight, the British public has been shocked by the utter devastation and loss of at least 79 lives (and still counting) following Grenfell Tower fire in the affluent area of Kensington.

With the public inquiry and investigation commissioned from Prime Minister Theresa May now undergo, many high rise towers and their owners are under scrutiny for safety.

One of the main issues of concern is the cladding that was used for the outside of the building, that enabled the fire to burn at an increasingly high speed (some say it was cheaply used for cosmetic visual reasons).

Now, landlords and local authorities are checking their own use of cladding and fire safety procedures to ensure that this tragedy that took the lives of so many innocent people cannot happen again.

The government ordered that small samples of cladding be taken and examined for fire safety, of which all samples failed and as a result, many residents of relating properties were asked to vacate their homes so their properties could be assessed by inspectors to check safety aspects in line with current regulations.

However, a few people were reluctant to leave – in fact, adamant that they were not going even though they knew their property could be non-complaint with the fire regulations and in danger of being subject to being destroyed by fire like Grenfell Tower.

This stubbornness to leave the properties, trust and allow the relevant professionals to check the building is sometimes how we are with God. Our pride, fear, inhibition, and stubbornness can endanger not just our lives, but our souls and others too.

In these troubling times, God still speaks and tells us to come out of danger before it’s too late and in so doing to trust him as we evacuate the sins of this world to the safety of his grace.

Rick Warrant says “True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.” This we find, too, in scriptures where we are instructed to Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 Today, let us trust God, pray for those who suffer and take the time to listen to the voice of God as he leads us to safety.
