Together We Can

Pastor Pastor's Thought

Unity is the primary ingredient if we are to see growth and development in the local church, families or communities.  Where there is an absence of unity, there is also instability, division, erosion, and stagnation.  Consequently, we often hear of terms such as church splits, which is simply another term for disunity. Another term we may use is division, which if we took poetic license, we could call it “di-vision“.  The absence of a shared vision is where the vision dies or ceases to be effective.

In the coming year we must agree that without unity we are unable to see the kingdom of God or the ministry of the church develop.

We know the Scriptures in Acts 2 state that the Holy Spirit only descended in the room when there was unity. As a result, many more came to know the Lord.  This was sparked by unity. In Psalm 133, the Psalmist described unity as follows :

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

Unity does not mean that we all agree on the same thing, but we can often agree to disagree.  As John Trapp states, ‘Unity, without verity is no better than conspiracy’.

Even the weak become strong when they are united.

Friedrich von Schiller

Today, as we join together in prayer and fasting, we seek for that greater unity, that comes when we surrender our will to God’s will and our way to his perfect plan and purpose.
