The Right Move

Pastor Pastor's Thought

This week Parliament was at odds with itself as the main two parties were hit by the deflection of MPs to form a new party called the Independent Group.  The Labour Party have become more left-wing with issues of antisemitism and form policy and with the Conservative Party anti EU right-wing, coupled with the threat of a no deal Brexit abbys.  All this created the atmosphere for there to be the need for a new centrist party that met the needs of a country that they believed were threatened by polarised politics.

Some MPs had been members of their parties for up to fifty years and so the decision to split was not taken lightly. For some it was out of anger and others out of despair and disappointment.

This new formulated party arose out in the midst of conflict with their respective leaders, which then gave credence to their need to see the now new third largest party formulated. As we proceed towards the challenge of a possible no deal Brexit, the fear of the unknown has created a sense of panic amongst many within the Banking industry and corporate field.

In endeavouring to find a new leader who will guide the country through a new problem, the formation of a new party could be seen as an effort that is too late, for a situation of this magnitude.

Interestingly, Chuka Ummuna previously put his name forward to challenge the current leader of the Labour Party.

Part of the process of deflecting sees the MPs walk from their side of the House to the new Party with whom they are joining.  However, some members of the Conservative party have said that MPs would be welcome back if they wished to return.

The classic statement on polarization comes from Christ: ‘He that is not with me is against me.’ (Luke 11:23) He allowed no middle ground to the money-changers in the Temple. One acts decisively only in the conviction that all the angels are on one side and all the devils on the other ~ Saul Alinsky.

Regardless of your decision, you can either choose what’s right or anything that’s left. May we, with the courage of our convictions and the boldness of our heart, choose what is right and do what is right.
