My Guide

Pastor Pastor's Thought

There are a number of things that ought to be taken in to consideration when travelling. If you are going backpacking there are even more specific things to be considered, such as: Insurance, immunisation, budgeting your daily travel cost, Visas and general safety, travelling alone, volunteering and ‘voluntourism’. This week we received reports of three Britons on tour in Vietnam who have been found dead near waterfalls after they slipped and fell to their deaths. Investigations revealed the tourists were wearing safety jackets and helmets, however the essential safety rope was missing. It has been alleged the tourists may have been using an unqualified tour guide. Our condolences go to the tourists families.

To take a repeat journey by oneself is one thing, as we may be somewhat familiar with present hurdles, obstacles, challenges and even aware of our own personal limitations and failings. It becomes a whole different ‘ball game’ when you have one or more others accompanying you on that all too familiar journey. Sometimes there are things we take for granted, and we journey on automatic pilot. The pitfalls we avoid without a second thought or the obstacles we overcome without having to look can become the difference between life and death to another person.

There is a saying: “True guidance is like a small lamp in a dark forest. It doesn’t show everything at once. But gives enough light for the next step to be safe.” ~ author unknown.

Life could easily be described as a forest, with many exciting and dangerous things within. Yet, with the right equipment and the correct guide we can get through the highs and lows, the challenges and opportunities presented.

For life, God provides His children with His Holy Spirit whom He promises will guide us into all truth and promises never to leave us or forsake us. (John 16:13). This week, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in all areas of your life. Whatever He says do, wherever He leads go; you will be safe.
