My Brother’s Keeper!

At the triathlon world series in Mexico, a crowd witnessed a unique incident, when several hundred yards before the finish line, the leading runner began to waver and faint during the hot weather as he Jonny Brownlee struggled to finish the race. Seeing his predicament his older brother Alistair raced up behind him and propped him up, for the final 200m and pushed him across the line so he could finish second, even though this denied Alistair of that second place and he himself came third.

Without any concern for his own success, he ran with one goal, which was just to get his brother across the finishing line.

Having pushed his brother across the line, his brother fainted through exhaustion. Nonetheless, he finished the race. It was beyond doubt that he was his brother’s keeper.

Oftentimes, we see our fellow brethren who are struggling, in need of us propping them up so they can run the race.

Sometimes, they may need propping up in prayers, words of encouragement, correction, love, and direction; sometimes, they may be in need of a good old spiritual push, so as to enable them to make it across.

In philippians 2:3 we read ~ Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.

This week, let us look out for the need of our brothers and sisters, doing what we can to help them make it in.
