Mothers

Pastor Pastor's Thought

Mary was said to be blessed among all women for carrying Jesus but to me Mary wasn’t only blessed and favoured for carrying our Lord and saviour, she was blessed because God entrusted her to carry life, just as every mother on this earth that births their children.
The Bible doesn’t state that every woman will bare children or become a mother but it does say in His Word that a mothers responsibility and role should be taken seriously. Read Titus 2:4-5, 1 Peter 3:1-4 and 1 Timothy 2:9-10. Mothers have a crucial role to play in the upbringing and development of their children.
Being a mother doesn’t end after giving birth or even when your children have children of their own. The role will simply change and develop with the growth of her children yet the love, care, nurturing and encouragement should never cease.

Not every child is blessed to have a good relationship with their mother for many reasons but we have no reason to fear because God said in Psalm 27:10 “even when my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me in” and sometimes the way He does this is by placing a mother figure in our lives that may be of no relation at all.

When I think of a mother I think of unconditional love, sacrifice and a bond which is unbreakable and as I searched through the scriptures to find a description of “motherhood” I then realised motherhood looks a lot like Christ.

The love our mothers show is just the introduction to the type of love our God has towards us and longs to pour out in our lives.

Oftentimes our mothers play many roles…she’s our nurse when we are sick, counselor when we need someone to turn to, someone to correct us when we are wrong and to our friend when we have no one around us.

Let us from this day return their unconditional love, appreciate their sacrifices and honour them as they deserve.

God bless ~ Happy Mothering Sunday!
