This week Thailand mourned at the funeral of its former King Bhumibol Adulyadej who had been lying in state for 12 months. He had been revered as a demi-god and was in his time the world’s longest reigning monarch.
The lavish ceremony was seen by hundreds of thousands of mourners who lined the streets, as the gold chariot carrying the former king made its way to the crematorium which represented Mount Meru, where it is believed, Thai Royals return after they are dead.
It took the countries top artisans ten months to construct the fifty metres tall crematoria adorned with images from mythology.
The chariot that escorted his body was carried by 250 men for the lavish funeral which cost £70m.
Despite many attempts to overthrow him, he managed to overcome all opposition, stay in power, and in so doing bring stability and peace to the country.
Regardless of how many people attend your funeral, remember Jesus only had three friends and family members attend his funeral, but His legacy lives on.
Whether king, prince or pauper, we all have an appointment we will attend. ‘… it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:’ Hebrews 9:27.
Today, remember as you live you are writing your own legacy.
