Invest Wisely

Pastor Pastor's Thought

Poverty presents social issues to those who are troubled by it.  But wealth presents a further personal concern for those who have the economical abundance of wealth and who are faced with the concern as to how and where they will preserve their wealth.

On 2 April 2015, a group of daring professional criminals strategically entered the premises of Hatton Garden Safe Deposit company, while they uninterruptedly carried out one of the biggest heist in UK history, where they emptied the vaults of many rich and wealthy folk, seizing precious stones and metals and other undisclosed items.

It was reported that although the alarm had been triggered, allegedly the on site security guard refused to go down to investigate. Additionally, it was also reported that many of those who had items inside the deposit boxes had no independent insurance against such theft.  Ironically,  the company could now unofficially be renamed as the Hatton Garden UNSafe Deposit company.

We oftentimes pursue wealth, envy and lust after it with the assumption that money and wealth equate to happiness.  However, this incident is indicative that whether rich or poor we are all faced with ‘money problems’.

Society has created a new arena of people who are faced with the challenge of protecting wealth and the Bible is vocal on the issue concerning wealth.

In Matthew 6:19-21 Jesus talks about His safety deposit boxes, at no charge.  He said, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”. (‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭19-21‬ KJV).

Our priority must not be in accumulating earthly wealth. Billy Graham aptly puts it as such,  ”
“When wealth is lost, nothing is lost;
When health is lost, something is lost;
When character is lost, all is lost”.

Today, let us invest our wealth not in the imperishable.
