In or Out?

Pastor Pastor's Thought

David Cameron has been fighting with members of the European Union for the rights of British people, ready for the European Union referendum elections on 23 June 2016. As the Prime Minister, it is his responsibility along with his government to make sure Britain has a fair deal and the citizens of this country, when they go to the polls, know exactly what deal has been accepted.

What Cameron wanted was:
– A freeze on in-work benefits for EU citizens working in the UK
– To stop all payments of child benefit going to children living outside the UK, whose parents are working in the UK
– Safeguards to protect countries outside the eurozone against regulation made by those inside
– A declaration that the treaty motto of “ever closer union among the peoples of Europe” did not apply to the UK.

It is reported that the deals have been done and agreements made, albeit that Cameron did not get all he asked for; yet Prime Minister Cameron stated he will now put his heart and soul into staying in the European Union.

As individuals, we too need to make our daily decision as to whether we will have a dedicated faith walk with God through Jesus Christ and stick with him faithfully through thick and thin, highs and lows…or to go our own way.

In scripture, Joshua reflected on the experiences of the Israelites; the fighting they had with their enemies and the blessings from the Lord. He laid it all before the people, then said “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve…..; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15). The people had voted to stay ‘in’, with the Lord!

This week, reflect on the goodness of the Lord, praise Him and be thankful to Him; ‘count your blessings’ and make the choice to draw near unto the Lord!
