Follow the Star – Jesus for Everyone

Pastor Pastor's Thought

One of the most bizarre accounts concerning the nativity is that of the Magi, who went on an extraordinary journey that may have taken many months, even up to a year to find Jesus. The extraordinary factor pertaining to this narrative is that these Magi were not Jewish scholars or even Jewish practitioners, but what we do know is that they came from the East of Bethlehem, travelling many miles at great risk to their wellbeing and safety, to pay homage and bestow gifts upon a child of whom they knew very little about.

The myth tide up. In the musicology of the Carol We Three Kings, does very little to unpack the account in the Scriptures. Whilst the Bible mentions the three gifts bestowed upon. Jesus, it does not by any account state that there were only three visitors.

Their attendance caused Herod to massacre the children because of their account or message. What Herod realised was that they did not just come to visit a Jewish king, but a King who was for everyone.

The Carol `In the Bleak Mid Winter’, poor theology wrapped up in musicology, is finally redeemed in the last stance, where it asks the question, ‘what shall we do? ‘ and to this gives a perfect response, ‘give him our heart’.

In this season, let us too ensure that Jesus too has our heart.
