Education: Life’s Learning

Pastor Pastor's Thought

This month, the month of February is marked asĀ Education monthĀ within the New Testament Church of God nationally. It is the month in which we reflect upon education across the various age groups within our church.Ā Education or learning is not restricted to a certain age group, race, gender or diaspora but is both relevant and necessary for everyone, regardless of their status.

Jesus himself was committed to learning, and we see that even His disciples were the recipients of 3 years of intensive training and learning that would equip them to achieve great exploits toĀ the glory of God.

Scripture encourages learning, and says ā€˜learn of meā€™ (Matthew 11:29) and we find that even our most renowned Apostle Paul sat at the feet of Gamaliel to learn and equip himself for ministry (Acts 22:3).

Timothy, in turn sat at the feetĀ of St Paul, who noted to him that his age should not be a hindrance to him ( 1 Timothy 4:12).Ā

Those in the industry of health and well-being oftentimes strongly recommend that in the interest of mental stability, one should continuously commit oneself to studying, reading and learning.

“I am still learning”

-Michaelangelo, age 87

Thereā€™s a Latin saying ā€œcarpe diemā€ that we should seize the day or opportunity. However, there are times where we must go that step further and create opportunities to learn or educate ourselves. Read books, watch documentaries, even read ā€˜living booksā€™: listening to people willing to talk about their lived experiences. We can also aid those around us by being willing to be part of the process in educating others.Ā

As the Apostle Paul wrote, ā€œ Study hard and prove yourselfā€ 2 Timothy 2:15Ā and in so doing, let us do our best to help someone else be their best, to Godā€™s glory..
