World Peace Through the Prince of Peace

Pastor Pastor's Thought

There are many things US President Donald Trump envisaged following his inauguration, from more jobs for the American people to a wall keeping the Mexicans out.  However, it is uncertain even President Trump would have seen this coming.  For almost 70 years the countries of Korea both North and South, have been on nonspeaking terms.  Yet, this week we saw the coming together of both North and South  Korea, featuring handshakes and even warm embrace. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un gave a brief visit to the South and was warmly welcomed by his Southern counterpart, President Moon Jae-in.  The visit left the world looking on with great surprise as the two agreed to hold military talks, with a view to reducing their arsenal and military weaponry.
The path to peace talks is being greatly attributed to US President Donald Trump, when in a late 2017 speech he said he was “ready to totally destroy” North Korea.  2018 saw the first of bilateral talks between North and South and then in February athletes from North and South compete together for the first time.
Such has the been the impact that one media source stated that “Trump and Kim are currently the favourites to win the prize, according to one British oddsmaker, and some of Trump’s aides are telling reporters that a lasting thaw between North and South Korea should win Trump the award.”
Whilst this has not yet finalised all talks, for the first time in 70 years, peace is on the horizon.
John F. Kennedy stated that, ” Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.”
The Bible takes a different view on world peace and Jeremiah summed it up well stating, in a phrase that “Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14; Jeremiah 8:11).
Notwithstanding, in an effort for peace, let us pray for the peace that comes through Jesus to the world.   Scriptures states, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us, a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
