The last two weeks have seen the rise in the war in Syria, but this time with the use of chemical weaponry.
The USA airstrikes against Syria in the last two days was supported by UK and France following the alleged use of chemical weapons on the Syrian civilians by its own government. The chemical weapons used resulted in over 80 civilians being killed, including women and children and it is suspected over 500 may have been affected. The scenes of men, women, and children being doused with water to flush away the chemicals they had been exposed to, were shown worldwide.
The reaction from Russia was to blame Britain and Syrian rebels for the use of chemical weapons, according to USA Today. The Russian and Syrian authorities have also declared the actions of the West as a ‘flagrant violation of International law ‘.
The reaction from other parts of the Western world has been very much in support of USA President Donald Trump’s air strikes against the Syrian regimes alleged use of prohibited chemical agents.
The US air strikes targeted actual sites where chemicals were being made in Syria and it is reported over 100 missiles were released against Syrian chemical plant sites.
New reports stated that “The new strikes are meant to persuade Assad not to order more attacks like Douma. The problem is that the Syrian dictator has every incentive to keep doing so until the war is won — and to bet Trump wouldn’t be willing to actually take on his regime directly.”
The American president feels convicted to forge war in defence of the people against the current regime. Interestingly, Leo Tolstoy states that “If everyone fought for their own convictions there would be no war.”
Ecclesiastes 3:8
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
In this time of war, let us pray for the victims of war and that God’s peace will win over the spoils of war.
