In a recent article, it was reported that world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawkins attuned his Armageddon of the Earth, decreasing it by 900 years from his initial estimation of 1,000-years. He suggests that we have a century left to evacuate the planet and become multi-planetary species.
Although this idea seems ridiculous or even unrealistically optimistic, we would be wise to look at what humanity has achieved over the past 100 years. The article continues that “humanity has accomplished a great deal of innovation. We learned to fly (at least with the help of planes), built huge machines, cured diseases, and developed computers, the Internet, and smart devices”.
Unfortunately, despite these achievements we have managed to kill millions of people through world wars (not forgetting the atom bomb), diseases, pollution and a long list of atrocities. The increased tension of climate change droughts and wars has led Hawkins to believe that we have 100 years left before doomsday — and we need to get off Earth long before that comes to pass.
The details of Hawkins’ latest doomsday warning will feature in a new BBC documentary airing on June 15 called Expedition New Earth, where he suggests that humanity needs to be a multi-planetary species within the next century in order to survive.
Whilst we might see this a quite a rush if we are just to recap the past 40 years of the telecom and computer industry we will see that today’s simplest of mobile phones are more powerful than the first computers.
I can recall a Jim Reeves song sang in many churches and funeral services called This world is not my home, where the first verse and chorus reads as follows:
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore
Oh Lord you know I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore”
Hawkins’ warning should not come as a surprise to us as scripture tells us that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us and in His Father’s house are many mansions: ‘that where I am there you may be also’ John 14:1-3. So yes, let’s get ready to leave this world, when Jesus calls; and tell someone that Jesus has many mansions prepared for us.
